Andrew DeMerchant has been playing drums and writing music for most of his life, bringing a unique mix of influences to every project. From opening for Eric’s Trip and Fugazi at punk shows, to playing in a 20-piece swing orchestra across Atlantic Canada, his versatility speaks for itself.
As the founder of Capital 6, he leads the band’s creative direction, writing material, production, and mixing. Capital 6's debut album, On the One (2020), charted nationally on campus radio, peaking at #1. Their follow-up, Not My One (2024), earned two ECMA nominations (Fusion Release of the Year & Jazz Release of the Year). The band has also been recognized by MusicNB, and features members from some of the East Coast’s most notable acts. Since 2021, Andrew has been the drummer for Josh Bravener & The Hypochondriacs, a high-energy band blending country, rockabilly, and rock & roll. With The Hypos, he has toured across Canada and the U.S., showcasing at SXSW (Austin Texas), Breakout West (Alberta), and the ECMAs. He also mixed The Hypochondriacs Live, the band’s 2024 double album in his home studio, GMLG Studios.
Whether on stage or in the studio, Andrew’s drumming and production work continue to push boundaries, fusing raw energy with technical precision.
